WILLIAM FREDERICK LEONHART (f. FREDERICK LEONHART, gf. JACOB) was born 16 Jan. 1890 in Tipton, Mitchell Co., Kansas, and died 06 Apr. 1981 in Mitchell Co., Kansas. He married COLENE ELECTA MILLER 16 Jul. 1924 in Barnard, Mitchell Co., Kansas, daughter of ARTHUR MILLER and ELECTA NORTON. She was born 18 Oct. 1904 in Barnard, Mitchell Co., Kansas, and died 04 Aug. 1989 in Salina, Salina Co., Kansas.

William Frederick Leonhart, son of Frederick and Elizabeth Jane (Bergman) Leonhart, was born on Jan. 16 1890 in Tipton. He was the last living child of a family of ten children. Death came at the age of 91 years April 6, 1981 at the Mid America Nursing Center at Lincoln, KS., where he had resided for the past 6 years. “Bill,” as he was known to his family and friends, grew up in the Tipton and Hunter communities. He received his schooling in Tipton and at the Dean School. Bill was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church at Tipton. He was a farmer and stockman most of his adult life. He was in World War I. Bill married Colene I. Miller of Barnard on July 16, 1924. To this union was born eight children, five sons and three daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and sisters, Minnie, William, Yeti, Elizabeth and Sophia, who passed away as infants and small children; Sylvester, John, Emma Schneider and Tena Lawson. Surviving are his wife, Colene, five sons, Wilbur of 1008 Electal. Ash, Salina; Robert, Abilene, Tex.; Maurice, Lawton, Okla.; Arthur, Salina; and John, Sedan; three daughters, Wilma Condren, Lawton, Okla.; Elizabeth Henke, Osborne; Cara Neal, Salina. There are also 26 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives. Funeral services were held April 10, 1981 at the United Methodist Church at Hunter with Rev. Alden Longwell officiating. Granddaughters Mary and Betsy Leonhart sang “The Old Rugged Cross”, “In the Garden”, and “Does Jesus Care”, accompanied by Mrs. Warren Heller. Pall bearers were grandsons, A1C Phillip Allen Leonhart, William Leonhart, Randall Henke, Jeff Leonhart, Geoffrey Condren, Christopher Condren, Gerald Leonhart and Robert Leonhart. Agnes Ammons and Annabelle Wiles cared for the flowers. The American Legion of Tipton presented the flag to Mrs. Leonhart. Interment was in Greenwood Union Cemetery, Hunter with Hall Mortuary Service in charge.

Colene Electa Miller Leonhart, 84, Salina, died Friday, Aug. 4, 1989, at the Asbury-Salina Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Leonhart was born Colene Miller on Oct. 18, 1904, at Barnard. She had lived in Salina for a year, moving from Hunter. She had taught school in Barnard for a few years. She was a member of the Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her husband, William F., died in 1981, and a son, Wilbur, died in 1987. Survivors include four sons, Robert E. of Abilene, Texas, Maurice D. of Lawton, Okla., Arthur F. of Del City, Okla., and John A. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three daughters, Elizabeth Henke of Osborne, Cara Neal of Salina, Wilma May Condren of Lawton, Okla.; 26 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the Methodist Church in Hunter, with Rev. Andrew Leonhart officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Union Cemetery in Hunter. Visitation is until 9 P.M. Monday Aug. 7, at the Geisendorf-Rush Smith Funeral Home, Salina.
